Working From Home? Check out These Tips to Ease Your Back Pain

Working from home is the new normal and while it has some perks, it definitely has some cons. Due to the non-official structure of working in the comfort of your home, back pain is on the rise among remote workers. Poor positions while working at home contribute to bodily discomforts and backaches. So what can you do to ease these discomforts? Let’s dive in to find out!

Get the right chair

Most times, the problem is your chair. A poorly structured chair can cause a strain in the muscles which may lead to backaches as most chiropractors have observed in patients with recently-developed back pains. Also, chairs that are not tailored to the body structure will not be convenient for working. Both scenarios do not support a good posture and will definitely affect your back. Here’s what you can do – get suggestions for the right type of chair from your chiropractor. The right chair should support your body stature and a good work position.

Maintain an active lifestyle

Ensure that you stretch your muscles and get a walk, or some other non-sedentary activity, in between work. By sitting down for a long while, it decreases the flexibility of your joints, which of course contributes to backaches. Plan a walking schedule for a 5-minute walk every two hours and be sure to set a step goal for each day.

Use a support

The use of comfortable pillows can help relieve back pains. It serves as a support for your spine to stimulate an improved back posture. You can simply get a small pillow and place it behind your back when sitting on your work chair. Ensure that your pillow roll is soft and does not hurt your back when you sit, as a soft pillow lessens the tension on your muscles.

Ensure your desk is the right height

Even if you find the right chair that suits your body posture, a desk that does not fit the height might be a problem for your back because you have to lean excessively while working.  It is important to get a desk that fits your chair height and your body height as well. Ensure that these two match each other so you don’t hurt your back and neck when you work. A straight desk view is always advisable as this provides relief and prevents you from stretching to work at your desk level.

Start exercises and yoga

There is a ton of research that proves the relationship between exercises and relief for backaches. These exercises and yoga help stretch out your tightened muscles and encourage a free flow of blood in the body. Here are some exercises and yoga positions to check out – child pose, cat stretches, cat-cow, spinal twist, and partial crunches. Be sure to check in with your chiropractor before you engage in any of these exercises to know if it suits your fitness level.

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "I was very impressed with the chiropractic care I received from Dr. Anderson. I had received chiropractic in the past for my neck pain, but not to this level of care. After only a few sessions, my symptoms began to disappear, especially my neck pain, and I know I would not have been able to perform to my everyday work functions without the treatment I received."

Not only has the adjustments helped alleviate my stiffness and aches, but it has helped me have more energy and just feel more balanced over all. A few months ago, I was able to resume a favorite hobby of mine: golf. Due to my previous pain, I never thought that’d be possible."

  • "Dr. Anderson has allowed me to be headache free for quite some time now. I used to have daily nagging headaches that often would turn into a migraine leaving me unable to function. For the longest time, I thought I could just keep taking medication to have the pain subside."
